History:Â
This facility began operation as a TTC streetcarhouse in 1921. In 1954, it was converted to a bus garage as it served until closure in 2002 when it was replaced by another, larger facility.
Personal Commentary:Â
Another great little gem belonging to the Toronto Transit Commission. You may be aware of the abandoned bus station on the corner of Eglinton and Bloor, closed due to structural weakness. But located a short distance behind that bus station lies this fascinating place.
The first thing that impressed itself on us upon entering was the sheer size of this space. As we began to explore it, we found a number of artifacts from its former days, as well as several items the TTC is just storing there.
It appears as through something of interest happened there at some point as there is only one room in the entire building that is actually locked, and there are smurfs seals on the door. Obviously, I was quite curious about this.
In addition to the vast floor area, there were offices lining part of one wall. The upstairs area above the offices featured electrical and water equipment as well as washroom, shower and cooking facilities.
