I first noticed this property several years back at which time it was, apparently, for sale. Aside from being close to the highway, it seemed ideal to me. It was a real handyman's special, of course, but even without going inside, as it was locked tight at that point, you could easily see in your mind's eye what this could become. A large private home, with an additional guest house? A rental property? The possibilities, given the location, seemed endless.
As the years went by, it seemed the property had been purchased. I waited to see what someone might turn this place into. But nothing changed. It just continued to degrade, lost more of its roof, and became ever more overgrown.
I decided, on a whim, to stop in again for another look. Perhaps someone had tried to make something of it, but ran out of time or money. Perhaps just improvements that couldn't be seen from the highway. I thought it was worth a peek.
When I came down the winding, narrow driveway, it was certainly apparent that no landscaping had been done. Everything continued to be overgrown, and even the trees appeared neglected. When I arrived at the house, it became obvious to me that little or nothing had been done since my last visit, except by vandals.
The windows were, for the most part, all smashed out. As I stepped through the threshold, I saw quickly that the interior was even worse off. Plaster had been destroyed, walls painted, paint peeling, ceilings collapsing.
Yet despite the obvious signs of damage from people and the elements, you could still see the dream. A uniquely shaped and designed house that offered the potential of an amazing view from almost every window. Add a dock. Clean up the property. One could quickly have a dream home surrounded by land that could rival most parks.
I left again, closing the door behind me and leaving dreams behind. In its current state, without a LOT of money to invest, this house would either collapse on its own, or be demolished to make room for something else.
