It was a beautiful day while camping on the shores of Lake Superior when we hit the open road to do some exploring.  There were several targets on our list this fine day, but this was a chance find on Google Maps.

The Skylark Drive In, in its original incarnation, opened in the 1950's, and closed in 1982 and lay unused.

This 275-car venue was re-opened in 2000 by Willie and Julie Greco. In 2012, it was announced that the drive in would close once again. The Grecos were leasing the land, but were never able to secure sufficient funding to purchase it. The owner is believed to have other plans for the land and chose not to renew the lease. To date, none of these plans appear to have materialized.

Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia, had an extensive collection of animals, acquired personally or as gifts from others.  His son, who inherited his throne, did not share this passion.  Thanks largely to the efforts of Martin Hinrich Lichtenstein, a professor at the Berlin University, animals, land and buildings were donated by the king and in 1844, the zoo was opened.

As I understand it, this place has been closed since at least 2000. Certainly, it appears from the satellite imagery on Google Earth that it has been some time.
