Today, we continued our exploration of back roads, with the secondary objective of encountering polar bears. Everyone had been telling us that they were everywhere. Empirical evidence to this point in the trip contradicted that.
Finally, as the heat of the day began to wane, I made my way to HMCS Churchill to explore the secret spy station. I am reasonably sure I lost several pounds while exploring this building. Constructed almost entirely of steel, it was a veritable oven in this unusual heat.
We returned to our room hoping for a cool breeze of any kind as our room had no fan, and no air conditioning. As I understand it, these are not things commonly required here.

After having something to eat, we decided we would like to take a closer look at the artwork displayed on so many buildings in and around town. There had been a contest involving several artists who painted murals on various surfaces, including the Rocket Tracking Station and Miss Piggy. I think, however, that several of the artworks were not involved in that contest.
It was fascinating to see the difference these murals make in the overall look and feel of the town. I have seen other towns try to use this tool, but I do not feel they were as successful as Churchill.
The heat continued joined now by a smoke advisory as winds carried an ever-thickening haze into our skies. I had been attempting to reach someone who would take us to visit Prince of Wales Fort, but so far, he had not returned my calls. Our time here was coming to an end, and we still had things to do.
